I loved <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2017-03-11\/old-maps-australia-art-cartography\/8314730\" target=\"_blank\">this article<\/a> about Australia\u2019s quirky old maps, courtesy of the National Library\u2019s Trove collection. (Have a closer look at Tasmania in the second map. Poor Tasmanians.)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Still in Australia: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/victoria\/massive-spider-claims-six-seats-for-itself-on-busy-melbourne-train-20170209-gu9sgc.html\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Massive spider claims six seats for itself on busy Melbourne train\u2019<\/a>. The Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews, has criticised the spider as being &#8216;that one passenger who puts their feet on the seat&#8217;. The situation is being blamed on passengers no longer reading paper newspapers and therefore being unable to put inconsiderate arachnid commuters in their place (on the floor).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; That\u2019s not to say that people have stopped reading newspapers. They\u2019re simply switching to the digital versions, especially in the United States, with a huge surge in subscriptions to <em>The New York Times<\/em>, <em>The Washington Post<\/em> and other \u2018old fashioned\u2019 newspapers (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/world\/how-donald-trump-president-of-the-twitterverse-gave-old-media-new-lease-of-life-20170312-guw8q6.html\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018How Donald Trump, President of the Twitterverse, gave &#8216;old media&#8217; new lease of life\u2019<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Finally, some sage observations from Wondermark on those social media commenters who are <a href=\"http:\/\/wondermark.com\/1k71\/\" target=\"_blank\">outraged by political correctness<\/a> (\u201cYou can\u2019t talk like you\u2019d normally talk, full of all the invective and slurs you\u2019d normally use, without the objects of that invective feeling belittled and dehumanized by it!\u201d).
